June 27, 2008, Newsletter Issue #68: Personalizing Your Card with Scent
1
Tip of the Week
At one time, it was a popular practice by women to use their signature scent in all of their correspondence to let the recipient know immediately who it was from. Many women of later generations still do this today. You can do this to add a personalized touch to your greeting cards! You don't even have to use a signature scent in order to do this. You can add a touch of essential oil that corresponds with the type of greeting card you are sending to help convey your message! If you choose to go with a signature scent, use your preferred perfume or an essential oil that reflects who you are. Only use a very small amount of the perfume or essential oil on your greeting card so the scent is not overpowering. You want the scent to linger with the recipient, not bowl them over.
If you choose to go with an essential oil that is fitting for the sentiment in your greeting card, think about what you are trying to convey with the card you are sending. For example, if you want to convey love, you could try using a scent like rose. If you are sending the card to cheer someone up or send them well wishes, you could use peppermint.
Do not apply perfumes or essential oils directly to your greeting card, because it can stain the card stock! After you've signed the card, simply place it in a plastic baggie and add the essential oil or perfume to a cotton ball. Then, place the cotton ball inside the baggie though not touching the card itself. Allow the card to sit over night in a dark, dry place and then it will be ready to mail out.
