July 13, 2007, Newsletter Issue #19: The Importance of Thank You Notes

Tip of the Week

Children are taught from a very young age to use their manners. We teach our children to say "please" and "thank you." But, do our children really understand the importance of saying thank you to someone?

One way to help reinforce this life lesson is with the use of thank you cards. After your child's birthday have your child make thank you cards for each person who attended or buy thank you greeting cards and have your child fill them out.

Not only will this help to teach your child the importance of saying thank you, it will also help to teach your child about the postal system and how it works. Be sure to talk with your child about saying thank you and allow your child to mail the cards themselves. This will give your child a sense of pride and accomplishment while reinforcing very good life lessons they will carry with them to adulthood.
