August 10, 2007, Newsletter Issue #22: Fast Facts: Types of E-cards

Tip of the Week

There are considered to be five different types of e-cards available on the Internet.

- Flash animated e-cards are moving cards, usually a small cartoon of some kind, that utilizes Macromedia's Flash software.

- Postcards are e-cards that use non-moving or static images as the illustration for the card. Postcards are the oldest type of e-card on the Internet.

- Animated e-cards are similar to postcards, because they have one image, yet that image uses JavaScript to give the e-card some minor repetitive movement.

- Talking e-greetings are flash animated and incorporate speech synthesis to allow the sender of the e-card to add whatever they want the animation to say to the recipient of the e-card. Talking e-greetings are the newest e-card on the Internet.
