May 30, 2008, Newsletter Issue #64: Kids Crafts: Coupon Cards

Tip of the Week

Creating coupon cards are a great way for children to make a gift for someone they love and learn about the way we exchange money or coupons in this instance for services. The coupons inside these cards can be for a big hug, helping in the yard, helping make dinner or anything a child can dream up within the limits of their homes.

Supplies Needed:

One piece of construction paper or card stockPlain white paperScissorsA pencil or penCrayonsFold the piece of construction paper or card stock in half.  After you've done this, cut four small slits in the back side of the card far enough apart to hold your coupons.

Have the child decorate and color the front of the card and add their sentiments to the inside of the card first. After they have finished with that, have them cut the plain white paper into rectangles small enough to be slid inside the slits they cut in their cards earlier.

Then have the child create a coupon and make sure they write what the coupon is for. They can decorate the coupon any way they wish. It is up to the child how many coupons they want to add to the card.

Once they've completed this step, have the child insert the coupons into the slits made in the card.  Now they have the perfect gift to give to that special someone that will be treasured always!
