One reason behind this is to assure that an adult is monitoring the child while on the Internet. For most sites in which membership is required, you must be over the age of 18 and set up a password and login identification in order to send e-cards. This way a child simply can't just log onto the site and send a friend an e-card; instead a password and login must be typed by an adult, which means a parent should be present when a child is picking out an e-card to send.

Parents can rest assured that all e-cards made just for kids are age appropriate and the humor is at kid level.
